The nation of Konnorith is comprised mainly of two large islands, situated not far from the mainland of the continent. After it was first established as an independant nation by a clan of dwarven settlers in 1089dy, it enjoyed a long period of peace, comfortably removed from most conflicts. The leader of the settlers, Gromnir Ironbrow, ruled over the fledgling nation for centuries.


Konnorith was settled by a dwarven expedition led by the young Gromnir Ironbrow circa 1089dy. Sailing east from the mainland, Gromnir and the rest of his clan discovered the islands and set up a small camp near their landing site, in the area that would later be known as Kuldor. Seeing the discovery as a way to bring honor to his family name, he and his expedition scouted the nearby land and eventually found a home in the mineral-rich Mount Veknor.

Ironbrow successfully established a series of mines in the mountain, and used these plentiful resources to trade with the mainland for the supplies he needed. As the success of the settlement grew, it attracted attention, and soon travelers from the mainland began to flow into the islands. Before the situation could descend into chaos, Gromnir established a basic government to keep order. The population of the islands grew as immigrants continued to arrive, and the government became a stable monarchy. Gromnir declared himself King, ruling from his throne under Mount Veknor. The original settlement in the mountain flourished into a sprawling industrial city, and was named the Fire Den after its great dwarven forges. The population gladly accepted Gromnir’s rule, and he proved to be a generous king.

After four centuries of peace, the rule of King Gromnir Ironbrow was interrupted. An assassin with unknown motives infiltrated the ranks of the city guard and murdered Gromnir during a public speech, causing widespread chaos. Gromnir had no direct descendants, and had named no heir. For the first time in Konnorith’s history, the throne was empty. A panic spread throughout the populace, and the old government crumbled. The nation was split into several provinces, ruling independantly as city-states with no ruler to unite them.

During the instability, a half-elf war hero known only as Warhound arrived in the relatively empty southern island. Taking advantage of the anarchy, he and his private mercenary force established control over the area, setting up a massive fortress on the isolated island of Lun. The local population flocked to his fort, looking for a safe, stable place of refuge. The fort grew into a large city, and Warhound quickly spread his influence throughout other areas of Konnorith. In time, the lands he took control of came to be known as the Telnian Empire.

Warhound’s advances did not go unopposed, however. Most of the northern island honored Gromnir’s kindness to them and remained loyal to the struggling monarchy. The only living member of the Ironbrow clan, Hrengor Ironbrow (a cousin of Gromnir), ascended to the throne. It became obvious that the nation was divided in loyalty, and many northerners abandoned the inexperienced king in favor of the more stable Telnian Empire. The lands that remained loyal to the Ironbrow clan banded together to become the Northern Alliance.

It has been nearly one month since the assassination of Gromnir Ironbrow. Tensions between the Northern Alliance and the Telnian Empire quickly escalated into full-scale civil war. In addition, new threats have arisen in the form of goblin incursions, unusually large numbers of undead, and naga attacks. With warships from both sides moving to form a blockade around the entire nation, the conflict does not seem likely to end without the destruction or surrender of one of the factions.

Without a unified government, the majority of Konnorith acts through independant city-states that have divided control of the nation’s land into 12 civilized provinces.

Konnorith has a wide variety of geographic features, from the dense forests of Wrendath to the snowy drifts of Tundrar. Many of the provinces have their own distinct local climates, and were divided with these conditions in mind. As a result, each city-state has a geographic locale of its own.
